Media Reciever? Boxee is the Shit.
In my ongoing quest to create a versatile yet user friendly media server for my home I got a tip from a gent called Justin who is my projection tech at the theater. He showed me a sweet gem called Boxee (via boxee.tv).

Disclaimer time: Boxee is currently in Alpha and moving into Beta this week. It’s buggy as hell. I get errors constantly – none of which have caused content to stop playing or lag.
Boxee is essentially a user interface for browsing, launching, and sharing media. Yes, it’s another entry into the social networking genre. And when I say media; I mean all media. Picture viewer, video, audio, and channel feeds. The interface reminds me of an app store that can launch channels devoted to every wing of social media (flickr, twitter, facebook, etc) and internet video (hulu, , netflix, youtube – even youporn).
The interface allows individual user accounts so your recently viewed items stay private. You can add friends and share comments, ratings, and suggestions with your gang of geeks. I could keep going but I wasn’t sold on Boxee until I tried it so… get moving.
